Community members supporting healthy living

OUR MISSION

Abundant Living Foundation's mission is to screen, identify, educate, and serve youth and adults with prediabetes in underserved communities in a culturally competent fashion—providing prediabetes and diabetes awareness and options for healthy lifestyle change for the expressed purpose of preventing progression to diabetes.

EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

Understanding the challenge—and our response.

01

The Problem

Type 2 diabetes is one of the two major types of diabetes. The beta cells of the pancreas produce insulin, but the cells of the body cannot use it properly to move glucose into the cells.

Over 1 million people in Georgia have type 2 diabetes. In addition, 2.6 million have prediabetes, with blood glucose levels higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. On average, more than 84% of adults with prediabetes do not know they have it. Every year, an estimated 53,000 people's lives in Georgia are changed by a diabetes diagnosis.

02

Our Answer

Abundant Living Foundation partners with diabetes-focused community organizations to serve consumers, build coalitions, share resources, and address health disparities. We offer screening, personalized health coaching services, and support to move consumers from prediabetes and diabetes risk toward improved health and sustainable lifestyle change.

More than 1.7 million adults and children in Georgia suffer from diabetes. We are committed to ensuring more citizens have access to quality healthcare screening, diabetes-specific health education, food security through community gardens and food banks, and culturally competent interaction between clients and health providers.

03

Programs and Services

Abundant Living Foundation provides screening for biomarkers of diabetes and heart disease, as well as personalized education and support on alternative behavioral choices, weight loss, stress relief, and exercise for adults and adolescents. We will soon include access to community gardens and food banks.

We believe diabetes prevention is possible and can result in fewer associated disorders, including heart disease, stroke, and other related health problems.

KNOW YOUR RISK

Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed.
